Emma’s Story
Everyone has a story, but Emma has one that she wants to tell because she knows it is powerful and can make a can make a positive impact.
Her story is one of adversity, courage, resilience, and belief, and these are the type of stories that people need to hear.
Emma relays elements of her story through her public speaking sessions about neurodiversity, mental health, and resilience.

Hi, I’m Emma
I’m a highly experienced sales, marketing, digital and SEO specialist, but I’ve always been a ‘creative’ at heart. I’ve loved writing from a young age, winning several poetry competitions when I was a child, and aspiring to be a famous writer or journalist when I grew up.
However, my career path took a different course, and I started out in sales, moving into marketing and then digital marketing. I also became a high calibre SEO specialist, and I’ve held some very senior SEO roles for well-known brands.
Throughout my career I worked for several big companies and digital agencies, and I often used my creativity in my work. Writing media packs, sales materials, adverts, marketing literature and website content were things I did regularly, and thinking creatively about how words are used is an integral part of SEO. However, it wasn’t enough, and I always had a burning desire to do more on the creative side.
Throughout my life I’ve faced many major challenges both personally and in business. After years of fighting through, in 2015 things became extremely difficult, and it was a traumatic time for me, and a turning point.
Neurodiversity and mental health issues impacted my life greatly and it was shortly after this, that I decided that looking after my well-being was a priority, and this meant changing the way I worked.
Creativity was still calling me, and I decided that writing, and using my creative skills was something I wanted to play a much bigger part in my life. For the past 10 years I’ve been both a writer and a sales and marketing specialist. I have also networked very heavily within the publishing sector to gain a better understanding of the publishing world. During this period, I’ve written prolifically.
I have written several children’s picture books, a 200-page children’s middle grade book, and a poetry book. I plan to write more of these types of books in the future as well as more non-fiction business related books. I’m a member of the Society of Authors and the Alliance of Independent Authors. I also do copywriting, and I’m a member of Procopywriters.
Sales Before Marketing is the first business book I have written, and it is also the first of my books to be published. I still enjoy sales, marketing, networking, using my communication skills, working with entrepreneurs and small business owners, and being part of a local business community, but I also love to write.
It’s taken a lot of hard work, but I’ve now developed my small business “Brand Planning Ltd’ into a company that allows me to focus on a selection of areas that I enjoy. Predominantly in-person communication via speaking, networking and consultancy, alongside writing.
Two key things I talk about in my book “Sales Before Marketing” are how vital it is to have a good strategy for growth, and also how important it is to develop your business into a business you enjoy running, doing what you enjoy doing. This is exactly what I’ve done myself, and when you enjoy what you do it makes work and making sales so much easier.
I love communicating in-person with people, and one service I want to focus on more heavily in the future is the public speaking events I do to help raise awareness of neurodiversity and mental health, particularly within the business sector. This is because I feel the combination of my story, my lived experience and my strong communication skills can add immense value in this area.
Thanks for reading this section and I hope you might go on to buy a copy of “Sales Before Marketing’ and find it an interesting and valuable read.
